Abstract

<i>Allium</i> 属花き21種の種子の発芽と温度条件との関係などについて調査した。<br>1. 種子100粒重は種類により69~856mgと差が大きいが, 種子重と発芽率との間に一定の関係は認められなかつた。<br>2. 5~20°Cで発芽試験を行なつた結果 (第2表), 種子発芽適温は種類により異なることが知られた。<br>3. これらの <i>Allium</i> は, 種子発芽の適温から, (1)20°Cまたはそれ以上が適温の温暖発芽型, (2) 5~13°Cの冷涼発芽型, (3) 2~7°Cの低温発芽型, (4) 5~25°Cでよく発芽する広範囲発芽型に分類された。<br>4. <i>Allium</i> 属は6つの節 (Section) に分類されているが, 前記の温暖発芽型はIII節, 冷涼発芽型はIおよびV節, 低温発芽型はV節の種が大部分であつた。広範囲発芽型には古い栽培歴をもつ種が多かつた。<br>5. 地中海気候区に自生する種は冷涼発芽性, ステップ気候区に自生する種は低温発芽性で, ともに冬生植物型を示す。大陸気候区に自生する種は温暖発芽性で夏生植物型であつた。<br>6. 観賞用 <i>Allium</i> の大部分は現在, 自生品がそのまま栽培されていて, 自生地の気候型に適応した特性を保持していると思われる。したがつてその特性に応じた栽培地や栽培法を選ぶべきものと思われる。

This study was carried out to ascertain the effects of different temperature on seed germination of 21 species of garden ornamentals in <i>Allium</i>. The results are summarized as follows:<br>1. Weight of 100 seeds varied depending on the species, from 69 to 856mg (Table 1). However, there was no relation between the weight of seed and percentage of germination.<br>2. Percentage of germination of seed in ornamental Alliums was observed at 5°, 13° and 20°C. Based on the results showed in Table 2, it seemed that the optimum temperature for seed germination varied in the species.<br>3. From the results obtained above, species of <i>Allium</i> are classified into the following four types:<br>a. Germination occurs under warm conditions (20°C)<br>b. Germination occurs under cool conditions (5-13°C)<br>c. Germination occurs under cold conditions(2-7°C)<br>d. Germination occurs at wide range of temperature (5-25°C)<br>4. The genus <i>Allium</i>, containing 500 or more species, is divided into six sections taxonomically. Based on the results observed, it is likely that section I corresponds to <i>b</i> type and section III corresponds to <i>a</i> type and section V to <i>b</i> or <i>c</i> type respectively. The species belonging to <i>d</i> type have had long history as vegetables.<br>5. It seems that the optimum temperature for seed germination is closely related with the climate of native land of the species, i.e. the species distributed in Mediterranean, steppe and continental climate zone corresponds to cool, cold and warm germinating type respectively.<br>6. Since most of garden ornamentals of <i>Allium</i> have not been bred until today, it seems that they continue to have character adapted to climatic conditions of their native land.
