抄録

The Hollow Fiber Oxygena t or (BOS CM40) was compared with coil type membrane oxygenator (Kolobow-3500IIA) in 42 patients who underwent valve replacement. There was no statistically significant difference in platelet count plasma free hemoglobin levels and inmunoglobulin levels between the both oxygenators. No marked increment of blood fibrinolysis activity was found throughout cardiopulmonary (CP) bypass in the both. Rapid reduction in the levels of CH50, C₃ and C₄ within five minutes after the initiation of CP bypass indicated rapid complement activation via the classical pathway. The level of C_3a showed a progressive increase during CP bypass in the both, especially in Kolobow 3500-IIA demonstrating an early significant (p<0.05) elevation of C3a activity. As far as complement activation is concerned, BOS CM40 seems to be superior to Kolobow 3500-IIA.
