Abstract
Two cases of anterior pharyngotomy for a tumor of the vallecula and base of the tongue with midline translingual approach are reported. Tumor resection combined with total laryngectomy for leiomyosarcoma of the base of the tongue in a 47-year-old male and for squamous cell carcinoma of the epiglottis tip invading vallecula and the base of the tongue in a 74-year-old male were performed with medial labiomandibular glossectomy. They could eat per os and speak using electrolarynx 21 days after surgery. This technique allows good exposure of the anterior pharynx and the midline closure produces good cosmetic and functional results.
