Abstract

Background. While benign lung tumors are sometimes associated with calcification, malignant lung carcinoma is also occasionally associated with calcification. However, lung adenocarcinoma with stromal ossification is extremely rare. Case. Computed tomographic examination of a 60-year-old man showed an abnormal nodular lesion with calcification. Positron-emission tomograph revealed a nodular lesion with no abnormal uptake of the tracer. Subsequently, the size of the nodule increased slightly, and he underwent an operation. Excisional biopsy of the nodule revealed lung adenocarcinoma, and we performed right upper lobectomy with hilar and mediastinal lymph node dissection. Postoperative pathological examination revealed the presence of an ossification island in the center of the stroma of the nest of the adenocarcinoma. Conclusion. We reported the case of a patient with lung adenocarcinoma with stromal ossification. When the tumor with calcified part increases slightly in size, a diagnostic procedure considering the probability of cancer should be performed.<br>
