Abstract
In this study, we performed an experiment to evaluate the influence of the amount of disparity of the 3-D object on recognizing the caption text in the 3-D image. In the experiment, the amount of retinal disparity of the 3-D object was changed while that of the caption text was fixed to zero. Participants were asked to watch a 3-D object on the display and also asked to utter a caption text randomly displayed below the object. We measured the latency from when a caption text was displayed to when the participant uttered it. The influence of the amount of disparity of the 3-D object on recognizing the caption text in the 3-D image was evaluated with the above latency. The result showed that the latency for recognition of the caption text tended to be longer when the 3-D object was fused in front of the screen than behind it.
