<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Stabilized bismuthonium ylides, triphenylbismuthonio-4,4-dimethyl-2,6-dioxocyclohexane-1-ide and triphenylbismuthonio-4,4-dimethyl-2,6-dioxo-3,5-dioxan-1-ide, react with aldehydes to afford three types of products; tetraacylcyclopropanes, dihydrofurans, and α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, the relative importance of these depending greatly on the ylides, aldehydes, and reaction conditions employed.</jats:p>
