This paper deals with the spatial structure of Shibuya which is one of the busiest quarters in Tokyo, ranked with Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. Concerning the number and ratio of various shops and other establishments, the charactersistics are as follows:<br> Shibuya has a starfish-shaped “shopping corridor, ” the streets of which are lined with high-class shops dealing in personal ornaments, while Shinjuku has a square “shopping corridor.” When traffic stations are in the center or the area and streets extend radially, the starfish-shaped “shopping corridor” is formed. High-class shops, popular restaurants, bars, hotels and apartment-houses are distributed successivelly like co-centric circles from the center, and show no noticeable irregularities.
