Abstract

A 76-year-old woman admitted for mitral valve regurgitation was found in preoperative abdominal computed tomography to have a mass in the tail of the pancreas. Angiography showed hypervascular tumor staining, and she was diagnosed with an islet cell tumor. Mitral valve surgery was done first due to the invasiveness of tumor resection, and the mitral valve was replaced with a Carpentier-Edward bioprosthesis. After 3-month physiological and psychological recovery, she underwent distal pancreatic resection. The pathological finding was an islet cell tumor. The patient is doing well and free of signs of metastasis 3 months after tumor surgery.
