Diffusivity of Water in Tri-n-Butyl Phosphate Solution

抄録

The diffusivity of water in TBP solution was measured at 25°C by a modified Lamm scale method using the moiré pattern. The following linear regression of diffusivity upon water concentration was obtained.
D=4.737×10−6−5.75×10−5c.
The diffusivity is about 3.5×10−6 cm2/sec at the water concentration of about 2mol/L, which is in good coincidence with that of Haffenden and Tuck. As the diffusing species in TBP solution, TBP·H2O or H2O molecule are considered. In the latter case, the water molecule is presumed to pass from one TBP molecule to another, and it seems that in this jump mechanism the exchange of water molecule between TBP molecules is a slower process and depresses the overall diffusion rate.
