Abstract
The iron vacancy distribution in single crystals of iron sulfide Fe1−xS was investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy at room temperature in the composition range from x=0.125 to x=0.083. The Mössbauer spectra for the samples with this composition range could be resolved into nine components and they were assigned to iron atoms with different configurations of neighboring vacancies, based on values of hyperfine fields and on the composition dependence of their relative intensities.
