Recently, four patients were treated for chylothorax complicated in thoracic surgery for lung cancer. Three of them were improved by conservative therapy (drainage with restriction of oral intake and intravenous replacement in two and the addition of pleurodesis with OK-432 in one). It seemed that OK-432 was highly effective. The other patient underwent ligation of the thoracic duct. Postoperative drainage ranged from 14 to 42 days (average, 25 days).<br>We concluded that conservative treatment should be abandoned if there is a loss of chyle of more 500 ml per day in an adult for more than five days.
