We experienced a case of benign biliary stricture treated by an expandable metallic stent (EMS).<br> A 53-year-old woman had undergone an extrahepatic bilio-biliary end-to-end anastomosis at another hosital, due to an injury of the biliary duct during a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for inflammatory gallbladder with many stones. Her postoperative course was uneventful and she was discharged from the another hospital 23 days after the operation. Nine days later re-admission to our hospital was required because of an increase of jaundice. Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage was performed at the admission day and balloon dilatation of the stricture site was repeated five times for 3 weeks. First of all, a cholangiography confirmed the normal function of the sphincter of Oddi. The trials of cholangioplasty by balloon dilatation finally failed. Therefore, the positioning of EMS was selected. After retaining the EMS, no restricture and defluxion of the EMS was confirmed. She is now spending the daily life without any signs and symptoms six months after the discharge.
