Abstract
The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between women's self-awareness of the physique and the behavior. The questionnaire survey was carried out from 1985 to 1988. The subjects consisted of 400 daughters of about 20 years of age, and their 366 mothers. Completely answered data was analyzed by Hayashi's Quantification Method III and the results were discussed from the view point of clothing hygine.
The results obtained are as follows :
(1) Those subjects who attempt to slenderize themselves by involving in dietary control and physical exercise (sports) comprise about 20% of mothers' and daughters' group. Those who use foundation garments for adjusting their body silhouette amounts to more than 45% in both groups.
(2) Those subjects, who are conscious of their bust girth, waist girth, or hip girth to be large, tend to involve themselves in slenderizing activities.
(3) Brassiere-wearing behavior is different in mothers' group against daughters' group. This result may be derived from different appreciation of the bust girth.
(4) Girdle-wearing behavior is similar in both groups.
(5) It becomes clear that correlation does exist between (a) those who had experienced discomfort in wearing brassiere or girdle or both, and (b) those who don't used to wear them.
