This study was designed to examine the factors affecting the development of motor ability in the preschool children. The data was obtained by motor ability tests administered in 352 children (183 boys, 169 girls) aged 5 and 6, and by qu estionnaires distributed to their 352 parents. The stepwise quantification method I was applied to the data and following results were obtained : <BR>(1) As for the factors affecting the development of motor ability of the preschool boys, 8 factors are extracted. They are 1) their starting months of walking, 2) their mothers' sprint ability, 3) their performance IQ, 4) the frequency of playing with their mothers, 5) the number of playmates, 6) their playing spots, 7) their birth order and 8) their daily physical activity. A multiple correlation coefficient of 8 factors for the development of boys' motor ability is R=0.5801 (R2= 0.3365).<BR>(2) Early start of walking, excellent mother's sprint ability, much playing with their mothers', many playmates, broader playspots are significantly contributing to the development of preschool boy's motor ability.<BR>(3) As for the factors affecting the development of motor ability of the preschool girls, 8 factors are extracted. They are 1) the hours of TV watching, 2) their daily physical activity, 3) the frequency of playing their mothers, 4) their verbal IQ, 5) their starting months of walking, 6) the minutes of walking to their kindergartens, 7) their birth order and 8) their mothers' sprint ability. A multiple correlation coefficient of these 8 factors for the development of girls' motor ability is R=0.5134 (R2=0.2636).<BR>(4) Less hours of TV watching, vigorous daily physical activity, less playing (static /play) with their mothers, good verbal IQ, early start of walking are significantly contributing to the development of preschool girl's motor ability.
