抄録

The purpose of this paper is to show the effect of the characteristics of the fabrics and gathering quantity on gather skirts by the shapes of the hem curve. Also it is to discuss the relation between the effect of gathering and the visual evaluation.<BR>The results obtained are as follows : <BR>1) The shapes of the hem curve and the amplitude of skirts are influenced by the characteristics of the fabrics, such as bending rigidity and drape coefficient. The shapes of the hem curve become uniform, the number of nodes increases and the amplitude of skirts is small, when bending rigidity and drape coefficient are small. Also the silhouette of skirts are influenced by the form of the dummy.<BR>2) The relation has been discussed between the characteristics of the fabrics and the visual evaluation by the Paired Comparison. The results show that skirts of pliable fabrics give more beautiful images.<BR>3) The Semantic Differential Method for 8 fabrics were performed by 80 panels. And 14 terms were analyzed by means of a Factor Analysis. The results show that the visual evaluation for gather skirts are composed of three factors, namely, light, static and gorgeous factors.
