Abstract

A case of primary endometrial adenocarcinoma associated with psammoma bodies is reported. A 56 year old housewife was seen because of brownish discharge of one year duration. Psammoma bodies and adenocarcinoma cells were observed in endometrial smear but not in cervical smear. Total hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection was performed and histologically, well differentiated endometrial adenocarcinoma with focal papillary formation and metastatic finding in the right common iliac lymph node were noted. Many psammoma bodies were seen in both uterine corpus and the metastatic lymph node. However, neither psammoma bodies nor malignant cells were present in uterine cervix and both ovaries. Significance of psammoma bodies in gynecological cytology is discussed briefly.
