Abstract

Two methods of continuous measurement of viscosity are described. The arrangement due to the one method consists of rotating cylinder drived by a single phase synchronous motor. When the cylinder rotates in the viscous liquid to be measured, then produces a resistive torque corresponding to the viscosity η of the liquid, changing the load current of the motor which is measured by the bridge circuit so as to compensate the no-load current of the motor. The other consist of a vibrating plate or cylinder, to the former tangentially, to the latter axially, which one is drived by a constant driving force. The mechanical impedance due to the retarding force, to the caused by the liquid, corresponding to the viscoelasticity G and density ρ, is measured electromagnetically. Some results of calculation on the retarding force on the plate and cylinder surface are described.<BR>Models have been designed for operation within pipe lines. This method is able to instantaneous indication of viscosities of liquids at anypoint in a ndustrial plant. Characteristics using water and millet-jelley, and effects of supply voltage, frequency, angular velocity, etc are discussed. These instruments can give indications of viscosity quickly, conveniently, an over a wide range (0.1c.p-1000 poise), continuously.
