Abstract

This study aims to obtain some concrete guides for designing thermally comfort pantyhose. For this purpose authors analyzed characteristics of the heat and water transfer properties of pantyhose and the factors affecting those properties. Furthermore, some experimental formulas for predicting those properties were found. The results obtained were as follows:
(1) Characteristic of each types of pantyhose were clarified: Zokki type was larger in weight and higher in heatretention, but lower in moisture regain than Kohhen type. Woollie-type was smaller in weight and larger in moisture regain than Kohhen type. And also Sheer-type was larger in moisture regain and moisture permeability. There were no differences in total heat loss Ht, wet heat loss Hw and water absorption area Ab between each types of pantyhose.
(2) Negative coefficients of correlation were obtained between dry heat loss Hd and fabric weight W or apparent density W/T, respectively. The coefficients of correlation between Hw and T or W were positive, but it between Hw and Hd negative. The coefficients of correlation between Hw and Ht was positive and high.
(3) Hd was able to be predicted accurately by using a regression formula in terms of W and Sd as variables.
(4) Similarly Hw was able to be predicted by using a regression formula in terms of W and Ab as variables, and Ht by using formula in terms of W, Ab and W/T. From these results, it could be understood that increasing of water absorption of pantyhose made its latent heat transfer increase. However, the precision of these regression formulas should further be improved in future.
