Clinical and electrocardiographical observations were made on five cases of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in the racehorse. Atrial fibrillation occurred paroxysmally during the race, persisted for one or two days, and then reverted to sinus rhythm spontaneously, without exception. In electrocardiograms recorded after the reversion to sinus rhythm, two horses presented the appearance of atrial premature beats. After the reversion to sinus rhythm all the horses returned to racing and performed in the same manner as they had done before the arrhythmia developed. Only one of the five horses presented the recurrence of AF. Discussion was made on electrocardiographical data and clinical findings.
