Abstract

Steroid-induced dermatitis (SID) and steroidinduced acne (SIA) were surveyed in the records of patients who newly visited the Dermatology Clinic of Osaka University Hospital between 1979 and 1984, In spite of a caution against such disorders proposed in the preceding years, annual numbers and incidencies of steroid-induced dermatosis including SID and SIA during the period were 30, 26, 31, 30 and 45, and 0.63, 0, 54, 0.64, 0.63 and 0.98%, respectively, and did not seem to decrease. The number and incidence of steroid-induced dermatosis in 1984 were even one and a half higher than those in the previous years.
Topical corticoid preparations, recently Marketed, had increasing share of causative drugs responsible for steroid-induced dermatosis. We proposed a policy to reduce the incidence of steroid-induced dermatosis.
The upper range of age distribution of patients suffering from acne vulgaris. which was studied as control in this paper, was found to reach to the sixth decade.
