抄録

In the gynecological department of Tokyo Metropolitan Geriatric Hospital cytological examinations for the uterine cervical cancer were performed from Jan. 1974 to Dec. 1981 on the healthy women who were admitted to the metropolitan public apartment for the aged.<BR>The results are as follows;<BR>1. The total number of women taking our initial screening by cytology for the cervical cancer was 575, aged from 60 to 88 and the average was 72.3.<BR>2. Out of these 9 cases were cytologically diagnosed as class IV and V, and 12 cases as class III on Papanicolaou's classification.<BR>The incidence of positive smear was 1.6% and that of suspicious smear was 2.1% respectively. 9 positive cases were all cytologically referred to as squamous cell carcinoma.<BR>3. 9 positive cases were composed of 3 invasive squamous cervical cancer, 4 invasive-inderminate squamous cervical cancer, 1 cervical cancer in situ and 1 invasive vaginal cancer on histopathology. 12 suspicious cases were followed up by cytology and one case was histologically diagnosed as dysplasia by biopsy later.<BR>4. By the initial pelvic examination those positive cases were not diagnosed as cancer, but considering histopathology, these were clinically diagnosed as stage 0, stage 1 cervical cancer and stage 1 vaginal cancer respectively.
