Fresh skin allografts had sometimes been used for the coverage of raw burn wounds after escharectomy in the emergency centers in Kinki Area, only on lucky occasions when the skin donations and the admission of the severely burned patient was coincided. As the programmed freezing technique has popularized and the quality of cryopreserved tissue has much improved, skin allograft transplantation became realistic and more valuable for the treatment of extensive burns.<BR>Kinki Area Skin Bank Network was established in early 1993 under the auspices of Kinki branch of the Japanese Society for Burn Injuries. In the past 16 months, 392 pieces of skin allograft were donated from 32 donors from 6 hospitals and 265 pieces were used for 15 severely burned patients in 5 hospitals. Details of the flow of the allografts and the problems of Kinki Area Skin Bank were discussed.
