The flow around clusters of bubbles with various initial arrangements is investigated by numerical simulation, when clusters of bubbles is released in a quiescent liquid from the center of the bottom of a two-dimensional tank with a free surface. The motion of bubbles in an unsteady flow is expressed using the exact solution of B. B. O's equation for a uniform accelerated flow during a small time interval. The Navier-Stokes equations in two dimensions based on one-fluid model are solved numerically and the pressures are determined by the SIMPLE method. Numerical analysis by connecting these equations is applied to determine the structure of low quality gas-liquid two-phase flow induced by clusters of bubbles with various arrangements. The numerical results show that the flow around clusters of bubbles depends on the initial arrangment of the cluster. The flow for a symmetrical arrangement is symmetrical, but that for an asymmetrical arrangement is not symmetrical.
