We led the approximate equation of gastric ulcer size reduction curve using Volterra equation on the assumption that the shape of gastric ulcer was round and the size reduction was even.The equation obtained was as follows. <BR> S/S0=1/(1-a/r)Exp(rt)+a/r <BR> Upon this, S/S0 is gastric ulcer size reduction rate, t is weeks and a, r are constant numbers. These constant numbers r and a were assumed as regenerative and destructive rates of epithelium, respectively. Using this equation, we compared the calculating values of ulcer size reduction curves in some known cases. The first two cases were measured by x-ray studies, the next one using endoscopic fiber grating and last two cases using endoscopic marker disk methods. As a result of these comparative studies, we confirmed good similarity between values obtained from the equation and measured. The Volterra equation was very simple and a rough model because we did not consider the depth, irregularity and pathological evaluation of gastric ulcer. But we could under-stand that this equation had an appropriate value in macroscopic range. Moreover, we found that these values of r and a were changed with treatment for gastric ulcer. From these results, we pointed out the possibility of objective estimation of drug effect using these values.
