<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>A single bacterium in an aqueous Ag nitrate solution was optically trapped by focusing a near-infrared laser beam, and then Ag nanoaggregates were formed on the bacterium by focusing a green laser beam at the bacterium. We obtained surface-enhanced Raman scattering signals from a focal area on a single bacterium.</jats:p>
