Abstract
The present study revealed the images of the coronary artery spasm morphologically using the experimental model of the coronary artery spasm. Rat heart tissues injected with endothelin solution were studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. In the coronary arteries, smooth muscle cells and the internal elastic lamina showed peculier images suggestive of spasm, and the endothelial cells were also damaged. The lumen of both arterioles and capillaries became narrow. Some of cardiac myocytes were characterized by the presence of swollen mitochondria, disarrangement of myofibrils and separation of intercalated discs. From the nursing point of view, morphological images of the coronary artery spasm obtained by us may be situated as a fundamental study to exhibit reactions in living condition.
