• Practical Study on the Freshening Characteristics of Experimental Tameike in the Salinity Hazard Area in Northeast Thailand

抄録

The weather in northeast Thailand clearly comprises rainy and dry seasons. Occasionally in the rainy season, especially in July and August, there is a spell of dry weather lasting about 3 weeks, which of ten causes serious drought disaster. Moreover, this is a typical up-country salinity hazard area with a high salinity concentration in the ground and soil waters. With the aim of developing irrigation water for the corresponding dry spell, construction of excavated small pond (Tameike) has been proposed and the availability of this option has been demonstrated.
Selecting Non Khwao village in Khon Kaen province as a study area, an experimental Tameike was constructed in February 1982. As a result of 3 years of subsequent observation, the following results were obtained.
a) The groundwater infiltrating into the Tameike could be used for irrigation by diluting it with rainwater and reused water from the upland paddy fields.
b) The diluted water in the Tameike was able to prevent the increase of salinity by maintaining the water level higher than 1.5m from the bottom.
