In the area of many irrigation ponds, resistance against water shortage varies according to each pond and the satisfaction degree is different in every pond. In this paper, the prescribe factors are analyzed, by using the satisfaction degree regarding the water quantity of the ponds as a index for the resistance against water shortage, which has been obtained by the questionnaire in the object area (the western area of the Kako River). In the analysis, the items expected as the prescribed factors are classified into 3: the natural factor, management factor and state factor. Especially, the relationship between the satisfaction degree and the natural factor (catchment area, storage capacity, etc.) which fundamentally prescribe the water quantity of the ponds is analyzed in detail. Furthermore, including the management and state factors as discriminant variables, the discrimination of the satisfaction degree (sufficient, somewhat insufficient and insufficient) is analyzed using the discriminant analysis. The conclusions are as follows.
(1) It was recognized the difference between the insufficient group and the other groups in relation to the distribution among the groups with a catchment area and storage capacity; on the other hand, there was no significant difference between the sufficient group and the somewhat insufficient group. Almost all insufficient group ponds have stratum under the mean value with a catchment area and storage capacity, and the ratio belong to the lowest stratum is very high as compared with the other groups. However, there was no significant relation between the stratum and frequency among the groups.
(2) The effective variables are included in the state factor among the 3 discriminant factors. Only by 3 effective variables of the state factor, is it possible to get a higher correct classification ratio than by the natural and management factors. By the natural factor or even by including the management factor as a discriminant variables, it was impossible to get a high correct classification ratio for the 3 groups to a satisfaction degree.
