抄録

In the Muda irrigation area in Peninsular Malaysia direct seeding culture of rice has spread rapidly since 1980 and it has been the dominant method of rice cultivation over that of transplanting in 1986. It occupies 90% of the area in the 1st season and 80% in the 2nd season in 1990. The weeds control and the improvement of seedling establishment are major subjects for the stable direct seeding culture. The improvement of field surface configuration by land levelling is an important countermeasure for the weed control and good seedling establishment.<BR>In this study the land levelling experiments were carried out by using motor grader and tractor in the farmers field and analysed the difference of improvement by the type of machines and discussed the required field configuration level for the stable seedling establishment. The land levelling performance was evaluated by the standard deviation (S. D.) of the field surface level survey at 10m grid points. The results obtained are as follows.<BR>1) The field configuration was improved to 3.8 cm in S. D. through the land levelling by motor grader coupled with laser machine control system (LMCS). On the other hand the field surface level has been improved to 2.2-2.7 cm by the tractor with rear bucket without using laser machine control system. Thus, by using the tractor which is very common in this area, it is able to attain the S. D. of 2.5 cm without laser machine control system.<BR>2) Through the analysis between S. D. and vacant spot area, it has been shown that in the wet direct seeding the vacant spot area can be reduced in 2.4% by the improvement of S. D. of field surface level in 1 cm.
