  • The revolution in menses by Anne Corp.- From "taboo" to "ordinary"

抄録

Today, Japanese menstrual goods are said to lead the world both in variation and quality. But until only forty years ago, Japanese women's treatment for menses had been behind that of in the West. In fact, they had made inconvenient use of rubber loincloth and sanitary cotton depending on the occasion, which caused "rash", "fester" and "musty". In terms of sociology, such poor treatment had various reasons. One of the reasons is that menses had been regarded as taboo in Japan. However, in 1961, Yasuko Sakai founded Anne Corp., breaking the old custom by inventing and selling the disposable napkin and liberated Japanese women physically, also mentally by producing the new and original advertisement. The purpose of this thesis is to state and study the achievement of Anne Corp and its influence on the view of menses in Japan.<br> Firstly, in section 1, chapter 1, I reported the prejudice and taboo toward menses in Japan which had prevented the advancement of the treatment, and explained how this view had restricted the Japanese women. In section 2, I summarized the treatment for menses in Japan before the appearance of Anne napkin. Secondly in chapter 2, I presented the history of Anne Corp from its foundation by Yasuko Sakai to the merger by Lion Corp. In addition, I indicated the fact that Anne Corp had to change the view of menses drastically in order to spread the Anne napkin, and as a result they also changed the view of women's body itself.
