We have investigated the effect of blending on the orientation of cylindrical domains in binary mixture of asymmetric polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) block copolymers. Thin films of PMMA-cylinder-forming block copolymer were prepared on flat substrate with silicon oxide surface. Atomic force microscope observation reveals that the PMMA cylinders orient perpendicular to the substrate by tuning the film thickness. Further, the grating substrate was used to guide the alignment of the perpendicular cylinders. As a result, an array of highly ordered, hexagonally-packed PMMA cylinders in PS matrix with domain spacing of less than 30nm has been produced.
