Abstract

In this paper, we demonstrate the effect of spatial variations of shear wave velocities of soils and predominant periods of ground on the seismic response of a site, where minor liquefaction was observed in a coastal reclaimed land during the 2001 Geiyo Earthquake. Those properties are obtained by surface wave exploration covering a 200-m line and highly dense mesurement of microtremor along the line crossing or passing by some of the liquefaction sites. Based on developed consecutive 48 models of ground along the line, one dimensional seismic response analyses are conducted. Experimental and analytical results are clearly harmonized in terms of clarifying liquefaction initiates in the most susceptible points in a spatially variant ground.
