Abstract

The authors thank Prof. Hitoshi Kuwamura for his discussion, and the answers are as follows;<br>1) There would be a defect similar to crack around wood-processing, so fracture mechanics is a valid method to estimate the structural members of timber engineering.<br>2) For improving the estimating methods of strength including cracks in wooden materials or timber members, the development of new measuring techniques of crack propagation is needed.
