Abstract
This study clarifies the creative lifestyle embraced by new incoming people, particularly addressing self-building and creative functions in the Osaka Karahori area. The following are our major findings.
1) Main motives of self-building are not only low cost but also the pleasure of self-creation and creation of an original space.
2) Creative functions tend to include several combinations. A person who self-builds exhibits more creative functions than a person who does not.
3) Self-building and creative functions especially encourage personal exchange. Furthermore, they include values of selfrealization and self-expression.
