The World Federation of Societies for Laser Medicine and Surgery (WFSLMS) has achieved many things since its inception in 2002, but one of the most generous of the WFSLMS programs and goals is the donation of laser and other systems and training in their use to medical professionals in developing countries. WFSLMS has also established training programs both in the target country, and for successful applicants from the target company at selected sites of excellence in Japan. Having heard of a 3-month training program carried out in Vietnam, the author applied was lucky enough to be accepted for one such 3-month training program in the use of functional training and rehabilitation, including the use of laser therapy and light therapy, at the Shinano Handicapped Children’s Hospital, Japan. This article summarizes the program and the author’s experiences.
