Abstract

Today, in many cities in Japan, municipalities run community buses in order to solve the problem of blank areas of public transport. The word “community bus,” however, is not defined legally, and the share of cost by the municipality and the operators differs from case to case. In this study, We asked the municipality about how much they spend to run the community bus and what kind of bus operators they entrust. Then We analyzed what kind of elements affect the cost in order to gain knowledge about the features of the cost of running a community bus.<br>In conclusion, We found the difference in operators, which municipalities entrust to run the buses, affect the cost. For example, the cost of running a community bus for 1 hour, which of the operators categorized as “local conference” is lower than that of the agents categorized as “bus companies,” “newly entered companies,” and so on.
