Abstract

 In snowy areas, snow removal operations cause damage to road markings. It is therefore necessary to evaluate the amount damage continuously as a line for the decision on the need to repaint markings. In this study, we have calculated the image features of photographs of the road surface taken at 20-m intervals from a traveling vehicle, and a method of continuously estimating the stripping ratio of the road markings using the features was developed. In addition, this method was applied to a national four-routes of Sapporo City, and the results showed that the fluctuation of stripping ratio in spring of 2008 was similar to one of 2009 as well as the degree of stripping differ from type of pavement.
