In order to utilize visible light in photocatalytic reactions, we have prepared N-doped TiO2 photocatalysts by using guanidine. As a result, a significant shift of the absorption edge to a lower energy and higher photoabsorption in the visible light region was observed. Analysis by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), showed that N atoms were incorporated into the bulk phase of TiO2. These N-doped TiO2 powders exhibited photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of 2-propanol in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic activity on visible light irradiation increased with the decrease of doped N atoms.
