Abstract
We demonstrate the behavior of windborne debris by stationary and traveling tornadoes using our original tornado simulator. The trajectories of debris were also evaluated from the horizontal velocity fields of tornadoes at various heights measured by using dynamic PIV method. Debris drew the circle trajectory of which radius was larger than that of the vortex core. The final velocity of debris was found to be smaller than the maximum tangential velocity of tornado vortex. The trajectory of debris in a traveling tornado was similar to a trochoid curve. We also refer to the availability of the correction of Doppler radar data using the characteristics of debris.
