Abstract
In machining processes, the environmental issues concerning lubrication are not merely related to cutting fluids. Machine tools generally necessitate a variety of lubricants for their individual sliding and rotating parts. Since some of those lubricants are often contaminated with cutting fluids and disposed without adequate separation treatments, it must be certainly convenient to use a multifunctional fluid which is applicable to both lubricating parts and cutting operations on machine tools. This study proposes a synthetic polyol ester as a candidate for environmentally friendly multifunctional fluid. The polyol ester can demonstrate sufficient performance as a multifunctional fluid for environmentally friendly machine tools.
