The mucoepidermoid tumor is unusual type of salivaly gland tumors. In the major salivary gland tumors the parotid gland is the most common location, whereas in the minor glands the plalte is the most common location. It frequently occurs after the third decade but rare in childfood.
We experienced mucoepidermoid tumor on the palate in a child, and reported on it with some comments based on the literature.
The patient, a 7-year-old girl, complained of a mass in her left palate. Intraoral examiation revealed an elastic soft swelling in the left palate. Under general anesthesia, the tumor was surgically removed with surrounding tissue. Histological examination showed a high-grade mucoepidermoid tumor that consisted of mucous cells, epidermoid type cells and intermediated cells.
The prognosis is fairly good after surgical treatment and there is nolocal recurrence and distinct metastasis after ten years.
