日本産ヘビ類の群集生態学 A Preliminary Study of the Ecology of a Japanese Snake Community

Abstract

1988年から1992年までの5年間,筑波のヘビ類群集の種構成,各種の相対的個体数,種数を調査した.432個体のヘビが捕獲され,6種が確認された.それらは,ヤマカガシ(184,42.6%),シマヘビ(148,34.2%),ニホンマムシ(59,13.7%),アオダイショウ(27,6,3%),ジムグリ(10,2.3%),ヒバカリ(4,0.9%)であった.1988年から1990年まで,ヤマカガシが1番の優占種であったが,1991年以降それまで2番目であったシマヘビにとって代わられた.ニホンマムシは1988年と1989年に3番目の優占種であったが,その個体数は1990年以降減少した.アオダイショウ,ジムグリとヒバカリの個体数は少なかった.ヘビ類の群集構造は毎年安定しているとは限らないことが示されたが,ヘビ類群集に影響を与え得る要因の解明は今後の課題となった.

Species composition, relative abundance of species, and species richness in a snake community were examined in Tsukuba, Honshu, Japan over five years (1988-1992). Four hundred and thirty-two snakes belonging to six species were captured: <i>Rhabdophis tigrinus</i> (184, 42.6% of the total), <i>Elaphe quadrivirgata</i> (148, 34.2%), <i>Agkistrodon b. blomhoffii</i> (59, 13.7%), <i>E. climacophora</i> (27, 6.3%), <i>E. conspicillata</i> (10, 2.3%) and <i>Amphiesma v. vibakari</i> (4, 0.9%). <i>Rhabdophis tigrinus</i> was the dominant species from 1988 to 1990 but since 1991 it has been replaced by <i>E. guadrivirgata</i>, previously the second dominant species. <i>Agkistrodon b. blomhoffii</i> was the third dominant species from 1988 to 1989 but its abundance has declined since 1990. <i>Elaphe climacophora, E. conspicillata</i> and <i>A. v. vibakari</i> were considered to be rare species. The observations showed that snake community structure varied between years. However, which of the several possible factors was responsible for this variation was not determined. Hence, a thorough study of a snake community should be made in the future.
