抄録

About half municipalities, which were newly established by the national government policy of municipal pro-merger action, adopted a comprehensive branch system and deployed quite a few officials with some authority at their branch offices. We selected Iwata City Government from them as an example and examined current conditions of information exchange and usage of IT systems by the officials through our questionnaire research with the officials of Iwata City.<br>As a result, we found that there were large differences in usage level of various kinds of IT systems of the Iwata City Government. The officials are likely to use the meeting room reservation system and the electronic bulletin board system, etc. which deal with the digital data. On the contrary, they are less likely to use the electronic discussion system. From the viewpoint of the ranking of officials, higher ranked officials frequently deal with decision making tasks through face to face communication. Lower ranked officials are likely to deal with announcement and reference tasks through e-mail and telephones.
