A 58-year-old female visited our hospital for positive of immunological fecal occult blood in physical examination. Barium enema X-ray and colonoscopic examination revealed a subpedunculate, elevated lesion, sized 15mm in diameter, in the rectum. Colonoscopic examination with indigocarmine spreying techniqe showed normal pit pattern on the lesion. We diagnosed the lesion to be submucosal tumor and performed endoscopic mucosal resection for it.<br> Histological findings of the resected specimen showed that the lesion was composed of proliferative lymphocytes infiltration with numerous lymphoid follicules, containing germinal centers in the submucosal layer. No atypical lymphocyte was found in the lesion. Immuno-histological staining did not show any monoclonality in the lymphocytes forming the protrusion. Then, we established that diagnosis of benign lymphoid polyp of the rectum, so called rectal tonsil.<br> This is a rare disease in Japan (22 cases have been reported including this case) , so we reported this case and discussed it and 21 studies in the literature.
