Abstract
In the fire safety design of steel structures, failure of friction type high strength bolted joints is concerned. This paper discusses maximum tensile resistance of friction type high strength bolted joints exposed to fire on the basis of two tensile tests (steady state tests and transient state tests) of the joint. High temperature transient state tests under constant load and increase temperature were conducted in order to investigate the influence of displacement rate on their maximum strength. In case of the transient state tests, the specimen was subjected to the load which was maximum load from the steady state test or from calculation result based on AIJ Recommendation. Load bearing capacity of the joints has been kept over expected critical temperature in case of the transient state tests.
