Abstract
Objective: We present a rare case treated by the emergent endovascular treatment for acute stroke with Takayasu disease.
Case presentation: A 49-year-old woman having a history of Takayasu disease was taken to our hospital by ambulance with loss of consciousness and right hemiparesis. She has been diagnosed with cerebral infarction due to the occlusion of the right common carotid artery for 5 years. Angiography revealed a severe stenosis of the left common carotid artery, and the left intracranial carotid artery was occluded. We indicated an emergent endovascular treatment for revascularization of the left carotid artery. A guiding catheter was placed in the left internal carotid artery through the stenosis lesion. Then we performed a direct aspiration of the clot using Penumbra aspiration catheter. After recanalization of the internal carotid artery, a carotid stenting was performed to the stenosis lesion of the common carotid artery. Her symptom was improved immediately and she was discharged home.
Conclusion: Revascularization for acute stroke of Takayasu disease was effective to improve the symptoms and the neurological statue.
