Abstract

Transit Oriented Development(TOD) is one of solutions to dependenceon automobiles. The objective of this study is to clarify real situations andproblems of TOD in Bangkok, which has a serious problem of the traffic jam. Firstly, 6 viewpoints of TOD components were extracted from existing famousstudies as indexes for this study: proximity to public transportation,mixed-use, high-density development, multi-modal, public space and walkingenvironment. Secondly, plans and visions toward TOD by some stakeholders and ageneral trend of the real estate development was reviewed from the 6viewpoints. Thirdly, a change of urban structure was revealed by analyzing realsituations around train stations in terms of land use. 2 case stations wereinvestigated and then problems to achieve TOD in Bangkok were described asresults of this study.
