Abstract

In recent years, it is difficult to make conservation and regeneration for the historical context of the region by urban developments in Tokyo. Nihonbashi is a typical existing urban areas. Last fall in there, Fukutoku shrine which enshrined local to more than 1100 has been revived. And Fukutoku-no-Mori (tentative name) would be in place within one year. These are made by different project each other. At the same time, Nihonbashi is an unique area having a lot of area management activities. This study aims to clarify the relationship between urban developments and area managements could become one of the technique to achieve the conservation and regeneration for the historical context of the region from this verification. Major findings are three functions about area management activities as follows. First, promoting urban develpments. Second, participating with stakeholders in the urban development concept. Third, cooperating closely with business activities.
