Abstract

The tsunami forces acting on a house were evaluated theoretically based on momentum conservation law. The distributions of tsunami inundation depth were investigated by using inundation flow data of the 2011 off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake tsunami and found to be log-normal distribution with two parameters. The tsunami force was estimated using the formula proposed by present study and existing laboratory and field data. When the probability density functions of hydrodynamic force and structural durability are two-parameter log-normal distribution, the probability of damaged houses was estimated theoretically. The fragility functions estimated were compared with observed data of the Tohoku Earthquake tsunami and show a good agreement with them.
