Abstract
Decline in habitat due to appearance of hypoxia and anoxia has been a serious problem in Tokyo Bay for long time. It is quite difficult to improve hypoxia and thus considering to improve anoxia seems to be a feasible first target among environmental restoration strategies. Monitoring of anoxic water, however, has not been well performed and numeriacal reproducibility has not been satisfactory. The objectives of the present study are to understand spatial and temporal characteristics of anoxic water and to consider enhancing the numerical reproducibility of sulfide. We performed monitoring of anoxic water, including sulfide and sediment quality, in the summer of 2014 and revealed their characteristics along with establishing an efficient monitoring method. Through numerical analyses for reproducing sulfide in 2010, we found that production of organic materials and resultant flux to the sediment is one of the most sensitive processes and adopting non-hydrostatic model is essential for succeeding in reproducing the difference in sulfide concentration between a large and a small dredged pits.
